Call for Research Project Proposals

Every academic year, Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR) calls for research proposals for co-funding your research projects. Those researchers (PhD, Master, and Bachelor degree holders) who are currently working on research projects/ or have proposals in need of submission are eligible to apply for the fund.

Directorate of Health and Safety (DHS)

Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR) is committed to provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment for its departments, staff, visitors, students and the general public. For this reason, the Directorate of Health and Safety (DHS) was established with the authority to develop and implement a safety and risk management program for the institution (departments, laboratories and offices). The mission of DHS is to effectively address the institution’s liability, operational, compliance, financial and reputational risks; to promote work practices that achieve excellence in environmental stewardship; to comply with all rules and regulations pertaining to occupational health and safety; and to protect resources through the administration of KISSR’s research, teaching, community outreach and service-learning objectives.

Mission

Directorate of Health & Safety serves the community by providing technical support, information and training, consultation, and periodic audits of health and safety practices and regulatory compliance.

Directorate of Health and Safety comprises staff working in a coordinated effort to address safety issues in six broad areas: general and chemical safety, life safety, occupational safety, biosafety and sanitation, radiation safety, and risk management.

General and chemical safety address a number of issues affecting well-being in the office, laboratories, and field hygienists, who are concerned with the recognition, evaluation, and control of health hazards related to the use of chemical, biological and physical agents. Life safety addresses a number of issues affecting life and fire safety by conducting safety rounds and reporting life safety code deficiencies. Occupational safety addresses a number of issues affecting routine and daily general and occupational safety issues throughout the laboratories by ensuring compliance with laboratory safety plans. Biosafety and sanitation include services related to recognition, evaluation, and control of microbiological hazards and unsanitary conditions. Radiation safety provides services related to the uses of radioactive materials and radiation-producing equipment. Risk management provides services to risk related procedures and all potential claims.

Vision

The Vision of Directorate of Health and Safety is to improve its service to the institution community, to support the academic and administrative functions, to protect the human, intellectual, physical and financial assets and resources, to help maintain a safe and healthy environment, to develop and facilitate emergency management best practices, to assist and educate departments in meeting regulatory responsibilities, to help ensure a safe and secure work and research environment, to promote a risk-conscious environment as well as the management of hazardous materials in an environmental manner.

  • Identify hazards/aspects and risks associated with its employees, interested parties, and the impact on the environment including as a result of its activities and/or processes.
  • Eliminate, minimize, or control identified hazards and risks.
  • Ensure compliance with the Health, Safety, and Environmental system requirements against legislative, regulatory, and voluntary requirements.
  • Ensure a continuous monitoring framework and environment.
  • Ensure continuous improvement of Health, Safety, and Environmental within the institution.
