Call for Research Project Proposals

Every academic year, Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR) calls for research proposals for co-funding your research projects. Those researchers (PhD, Master, and Bachelor degree holders) who are currently working on research projects/ or have proposals in need of submission are eligible to apply for the fund.

Currently, the call for applications is closed.

Research center of Natural sciences , Agricultural and Engineering

The Research Center of Natural, Engineering, and Agricultural Sciences was set up since the establishment of the Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research. It aims to conduct research projects in the fields of Natural Sciences, Engineering, and Agricultural Sciences.

The researches of the Research Center of Natural, Engineering, and Agricultural Sciencesprovide new insights into earth science, the study of solid earth, the rocks, the origin, occurrence, structure, and history of sedimentary organic matter (OM), all aspects of OM-bearing rocks, and encompasses all possible analytical methods. In addition, this research cener is important in Kurdistan Region and Iraq for mineral and hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation, evaluating water resources, understanding of natural hazards, the remediation of environmental problems, and for providing insights into past climate change. It also plays a role in all branches of engineering and agriculture is a major academic discipline and concerns with the description and classification of sedimentary OM.

The Research Center of Natural, Engineering, and Agricultural Sciences consists of includes four departments, which are: Department of Natural Sciences, Department of Agriculture and Veterinary, Department of Information Technology, and Department of Engineering

Department of Natural Sciences

The Department of Natural Sciences offers activities in many scientific aspects including research, training, and service. Earth science is the science of exploration, discovery, and earth stewardship. The Department of Natural Sciences addresses all issues relating to natural sciences: Biology, chemistry, earth sciences, solid earth, aquatic, and atmosphere.

The department’s laboratory facilities are available for a wide range of works in chemistry, geochemistry, mineralogy, petrography, ore microscopy, petrology, hydrogeology, and sedimentology. Our instrumental facilities provide measurements of the physical and chemical properties of minerals, thermal analysis; atomic absorption facilities, rock cutting, grinding, and ore polishing.

Department of Agriculture and Veterinary

The Department of Agriculture and Veterinary conducts research projects in the fields of water quality, agriculture, and food sciences. Researchers in the Department of Agriculture and Veterinary conduct cutting-edge research in agriculture sciences and examine changes in land use through the decades due to climate change.

In addition, researchers of food science and food safety focus on the investigation of food constituents and their effects on human health. Production of knowledge on food safety can be used to prevent food from deteriorating and spoiling. These studies influence public health, especially currently when food quality control is inadequate, and our studies and programs can keep dangerous and unhealthy goods off of the market and our menus.

Department of Information Technology

The Department of Information Technology provides education and research in several research areas related to electrical engineering, control systems and computer science. The department provides high-quality academic research projects in the fields of control systems, industrial automation, electronics and computer-aided engineering.

The department houses dedicated laboratories of robotics and automation systems that provide equipment both for research and teaching purposes, and technical workshops for repairing hardware and running software at our institution.

Department of Engineering

The Department of Engineering includes various scientific specialties such as architectural engineering, structural engineering, and petroleum engineering. These specialties serve both the public and academic domains. The staff of the department include several researchers who participate in the latest scientific innovations globally.

Petroleum Geology offers adequate laboratories and equipment for reservoir rock evaluation and fluid flow characterisation.

The architectural staff addresses all the issues related to the rapid growth in cities of the Kurdistan Region and works to find proper solutions for the problems that come with it. The structural engineering staff seeks to discover the latest technology in constructing buildings for the sake of more sustainable structures that meet the current needs of our expanded cities. Many interventions related to preserving our cultural heritage buildings have been produced via the latest VR technology, which has helped our history to become acknowledged worldwide.
