Researchers from KISSR and Edge Hill University bridge forensics, population genetics, and clinical genetics through a pioneering chromosomal study
Researchers at the Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR) have published a landmark study in Legal Medicine, the official journal of the Japanese Society of Legal Medicine (Elsevier, IF: 1.4). The study introduces a versatile panel of 15 STR genetic markers targeting human chromosomes 13, 18, and 21, with applications in forensic science, rapid clinical diagnostics, and population genetics. The research also analyses the genetic profile of Iraq's Hawraman region and compares it with surrounding populations, particularly those in the other part of Iraq and the South Caucasus. Dr Balnd Mustafa Albarzinji, Ara K. Mohammad (MSc), Bahez Ismael, and Khanzad Ahmed authored the study, in collaboration with Dr Haider Lazim from the School of Medicine at Edge Hill University (UK).
