Department of Agricultural Sciences

About Department

The Department of Agricultural Sciences aims to conduct research projects in the fields of water quality, agriculture, and food science. Researchers in the Department of agriculture and Veterinary studying new variations in agriculture science and changes in land use due to climate changes.

In addition, researchers of food science and food safety focused on the investigation of food constituents and their effects on human health. The knowledge of food safety can also be used to prevent food from deteriorating and spoiling. These studies influence public health, especially in these times Food quality control programs keep dangerous and unhealthy goods off the market and off our menus.

Mission

The Department of Agricultural Sciences is committed to developing scientific knowledge and technical innovation in a variety of areas, including Agriculture Engineering, Environmental Science, and Food Technology. We intend to address agricultural research and technological concerns. Our advanced laboratories offer high-quality analytical services to academics, and local communities, encouraging collaboration and progress in the Kurdistan area and the world.

Vision

To be an outstanding agricultural innovation research institution, known for our contributions to sustainable agriculture research and environmental science development.
We want to empower the next generation of researchers and create significant solutions that address current difficulties while improving our academic and industrial environments. Through continual development and cooperation, we hope to create a future in which our research drives progress and improves people's lives.

Environment and Agriculture Laboratory

The Environment and Agriculture Laboratory is multidisciplinary and focused on integrating the fundamental principles in soil, water, air, cropping, and watershed systems that lead to improved environmental quality, sustainability, and enhanced agricultural system efficiency

This laboratory is equipped with the following equipment:

 Flame photometer:

Flame photometer designed for the routine determination of sodium (Na) and potassium (K) additional filter are available for the determination of Lithium (Li), Calcium (Ca) and Barium, this equipment is direct reading use in clinical, industrial and educational application

Atomic absorption 200:

Atomic absorption is a spectroanalytical procedure for the quantitative determination of chemical elements using the absorption of optical radiation (light) by free atoms in the gaseous state.

Application of atomic absorption:

  • Water analysis: Analyzing water for its metal content.
  • Clinical analysis: Analyzing metals in biological fluids and tissues such as whole blood, plasma, urine, saliva, brain tissue, liver, muscle tissue, semen
  • Pharmaceuticals: In some pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, minute quantities of a catalyst that remain in the final drug product

HPLC   high performance liquid chromatography:

This equipment used to separate, identify, and quantify each component in a mixture. It relies on pumps to pass a pressurized liquid solvent containing the sample mixture through a column filled with a solid adsorbent material. Each component in the sample interacts slightly differently with the adsorbent material, causing different flow rates for the different components and leading to the separation of the components as they flow out the column.

This product is classified as a digital device used exclusively as Industrial, commercial, or medical test equipment that means used for analyzing hydrocarbon compound

 UV- Spectroscopy

UV- Spectroscopy is an analytical technique that measures the amount of discrete wavelengths of UV or visible light that are absorbed by or transmitted through a sample in comparison to a reference or blank sample.it is the best analytical tool for quantitative and qualitative analysis of samples for various research fields.
