The Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR) hosted a debate focused on the prevention of and response to nuclear radiation. Organizing such an event at this time reflects the institution’s commitment to addressing issues of direct relevance to society.
On June 23, 2025, a debate entitled "Plan of Action for Nuclear Radiation: Prevention and Assurance" was held. The session was chaired by Professor Dr. Shuan Kamal Rashid, President of KISSR, with contributions from Professor Dr. Salah Reza Saeed of Sulaimani University, Dr. Sarwar Arif Star, lecturer and researcher at KISSR, who presented the possible strategic health plans and Dr. Rzgar Ali, a specialist in family medicine and public health and Director of the Sulaimani Health Prevention Directorate. Dr. Rzgar presented key points on possible preventive measures and recommended healthy behavior during radiation-related incidents.
The session brought together a wide range of participants, including university professors, researchers, health professionals, academics, scientists, and media representatives. Emphasis was placed on the need for accurate public information to prevent panic and ensure readiness in case of any future risks. It was also stressed that the Kurdistan Region remains safe and not under immediate threat from nuclear radiation.
The event lasted over two hours and concluded with a Q&A session, where the panel addressed inquiries from the audience and encouraged continued discussion on the topic.
