The project is part of the first stage of the German-Kurdish joint research project. It is currently being carried out by the University of Halabja and the Felsberg Institute for Education and Academic Research, located in Germany based on an idea of Professor Dr. Polla Khanaqa, the President of Kurdistan Institution for Strategic Studies and Scientific Research (KISSR) and with the help of Dr. Yousif Goran, the KRG Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. During this first stage, six researchers have developed data collection tools aimed at conducting a survey among the students of the University of Halabja regarding their socio-economic situation. A focal point of the research deals with the risks of brain drain as a consequence of political and armed conflicts. In order to validate the obtained data, a smaller group of students from the University of Slemani have also responded to the same set of questions. In total, over 400 students from six different departments (Law, English, History, Social Sciences, Physics, and Basic Physical Education) and all B.A. stages have participated in this data collection phase.
